Does warehousing has importance in a Logistic System?

Nowadays, warehouse is not just a place where you can save goods and do it anyhow, but also a fundamental link for the costumers’ service. It is considered as the starting point of satisfaction of those who are going to consume the product. Moreover, it is a kind of structure that provides both physical and functional elements that are capable of creating added value.

As many companies consider this as something urgent but not as a matter of priority, it is easy to find some common problems in warehouse management:

  • Not having enough space: this means that the product may have a deterioration of quality as many times it requires a specific treatment according to its necessities. As an example we have food products, which many times have to be in a specific temperature zone.

  • Disorganization: when a company grows, their volume of goods does so. Then, many times these goods are placed in any part of the chain, as there is a space where to give them entry. So, a bad distribution in the line has a negative impact on manufacture process that may increase, which provoques variances on the delivery time.

  • Unknown locations: this implies a higher manufacture process and, consequently, the delivery time to the consumer increases too.

These are just a selection off an amount of problems resulting from not having a good warehouse system, which may cause a higher increase of costs in a future. So warehousing is very important for a logistic system.
